On November 7, 2009, the Boston-based drum group Urban Thunder led the way with powerful songs, drumming, and dancers for an enjoyable day at the Turner's Falls High School.
The event, organized by Cris Stormfox, president of Friends of Wissatinnewag, and sponsored by the Turner's Falls River Culture and TFHS, sparkled with joyous energy.
Wonderful food was provided by Ray and Wanda Semple of Semple Concessions, and several vendors shared their beautiful and creative wares, including Silver Hawk, Don Barnaby, and One Native Nation. (And let's not forget our AWESOME coffee, Wissatinnewag Wake-up!)
Also making the day just a bit more special, Ceremonial Landscape Preservationist for the Narragansett Indian Tribe, Doug Harris, spoke to a rapt audience.
With special thanks to invaluable board members Pamela Akemon and Denise Talabach, and TFHS principal Jeffrey Kenny; Coming Together wouldn't have happened without them.
We look forward to growing the event and having an annual celebration.
