Drum Making Workshop
|
|
|
This event has been postponed until further notice.
Join us for a wonderful day-long experience learning drum-making and
enjoying great food and music. The workshop
is free and open to those 16 and above. You MUST be pre-registered.
The schedule will include drum-making with Strong Oak, a woman of Maliseet
decent, who is a long-time craftswoman and teacher. It is Strong Oak's
philosophy that it is the drum that makes the person, not the person that
makes the drum - that one must bring their heart to the endeavor.
Doug Harris, Preservationist for Ceremonial Landscapes for the
Narragansett Indian Tribe will speak about the preservation of sacred
Native sites and culture. A Native-inspired lunch will be served with a
musical performance to be announced. Participants will have a drum they
will make and can take home with them.
This workshop is funded by The Turners Falls River Culture and the Mass
Arts Council.
